Two killed, four injured as bandits raid Kalemngorok in Turkana

Following a military operation at the weekend in the Kalemngorok commercial center in Turkana South Sub-county, two individuals were killed and four others were injured. Following a military operation at the weekend in the Kalemngorok commercial center in Turkana South Sub-county, two individuals were killed and four others were injured.

"On Saturday night, I observed two military helicopters circling around the center. While I was still in my shop, I later heard a big bang at a livestock market next to the Kalemngorok seasonal river, the man claimed. Mr. Kisike claimed he shut down his business and hurried home.

On Sturday night, during the curfew hours, suspected bandits attacked locals in the little trading center on the Kapenguria-Lokichar route.

This came after a cattle market next to the Kalemngorok seasonal river was subjected to an aerial assault by two military helicopters that resulted in multiple casualties.

County Commissioner Jacob Ouma confirmed the occurrence and stated that it was a part of a planned security operation to flush out robbers in the area.

According to sources, a livestock rustling incident in a community close to the boundary of Turkana and West Pokot counties was what prompted the military operation. The raid in Masol on Saturday resulted in the theft of hundreds of animals.

Meanwhile on Saturday, two individuals were slain in separate attacks by bandits in Kerio Valley in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Despite the presence of Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) personnel, the highly armed bandits simultaneously stormed Tot and Chesongoch districts in Marakwet East during the mid-morning attack, murdering two people and stealing hundreds of animals.

The most recent attacks brought the total of victims killed by bandits in the previous week to five. On Friday night in the same location, another person was shot to death, setting off protests from the neighborhood.

John Korir, the commissioner for Elgeyo Marakwet County, expressed sadness for the incidents and said that security personnel were attempting to stop the assaults.

"The criminals have unequivocally demonstrated that they have no respect or fear for our security troops. The KDF and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki have been contacted, and it has been urged that they relocate their camps to River Kerio as their current locations greatly favor bandits, according to Governor Wisley Rotich. A herdsboy was shot and hurt on Tuesday while tending to animals in Nariamao, close to the Kaakong market center.

A patient from the village of Nariamao was brought to Kaakong Dispensary around 12:30am with a gunshot wound to the left thigh. After receiving painkillers, the patient was discharged after the incision was stitched and treated, according to Dr. Apalia.

The locals claimed that because of the banditry attacks, they were unable to go about their daily lives.

To ensure the herders' safety, they demanded more security patrols during the day. Hotspot zones and locations frequented by bandits as hideouts have already been identified by the multi-agency security team.
